<title>NY CITY MARATHON</title>
<link>http://whatsupnyc.com/blog/archives/cat_today.php</link>
<description> Viewing Options Watching the race unfold in one or more of the five boroughs can be an exhilarating way to spend the day. Hopping from one viewing spot to the next is possible if you plan in advance, utilize the subways (visit the MTA website at www.mta.info), and don’t mind walking quickly (or even jogging a bit) to stay on schedule. If you’re planning to watch one or more runners, make sure to communicate with them in advance to discuss their wave start time, expected pace per mile, and where you plan to be on race day. Sign up for Athlete Alert on October 20th to receive updates to your cell phone every 5K, and every mile from 16 to the finish, on the progress of up to 10 runners. Alternatively, you can ask your runner(s) to pick up extra pace bands at the ING DIRECT booth at the marathon expo. Review the arrival times chart here and the course map here to determine your schedule. Don’t forget to communicate which side of the street you will be on—left or right, from the runner’s perspective....</description>

<title>Ninth Avenue Food Festival</title>
<link>http://whatsupnyc.com/blog/archives/cat_fairs_festivals.php</link>
<description>11AM-5PM Ninth Avenue Association of New York Ninth Avenue Food Festival Ninth Avenue, from 37th to 57th Street Checked the blogsphere and some folks have it sorted with which ones to check out. Avoid the professional street fair carts (serving generic kielbasas and funnel cakes and the like) and head to the real 9th ave restos&apos; street stands. Standouts from last year: Amy&apos;s Bread (probably the best bakery in HK) had many tasty items for $1, Wondee Siam had their amazing steamed vegetable dumplings (basically garlic and peanut dumplings) for a coupla bucks, and Rice &apos;n&apos; Beans had some interesting off-the-menu snacks.
