Songs For The Cup of Life @ The City Winery

Instead of pairing their wines with foods, City Winery's pairing them with Stevie Wonder songs. Little placards for each taste explain why a particular wine goes with a particular song. It's a little heady, yes, but we'll use any excuse to listen to thirty songs by Stevland.

The Secret Science Club present the Undersea World of Jack Costello @ the Bell House

Dive into summer with marine biologist Jack Costello as he lectures on the spineless wonders of the world’s oceans. Cavort with gelatinous and ghostly creatures such as jellyfish (cnidarians) and their comb jelly brethren (ctenophores). Feel the motion of the ocean, and ride the waves with copepods and zooplankton.
Professor of biology at Providence College and featured scientist in the PBS documentary “The Shape of Life,” Dr. Costello asks:
--Why do sea jellies have such creepy-seeming body forms?
--How do cnidarians and ctenophores kill their prey?
--What causes jellyfish invasions and how do gelatinous sea creatures get around?
-- Why is so little known about undersea invertebrates when they make up such an enormous part of Earth’s biomass?
COOL!!

HiChristina Ghettoblaster Snaggle Tooth @ HiChristina!

Welcome to HiChristina's good ol' fashioned dance party. With just a few extra-special amendments:
1. Bring your own music (ipod or CD) enough to last six minutes.
2. Have your "signature move" in mind. Something you can teach all of us.
3. Guess what's in the box: If you need to rest for a moment reach your hand inside one of three mystery boxes or crawl into box number four. If you dare.
The night culminates in a choreographed group dance, the ultimate in dance experimentation: A combination of all the signature moves from all different genres. Learn from someone who knows less than you. Breakdance/Ho-Down, hip hop/doo wap. Planned experts will teach some extra special moves to add to the ever-building excitement. Be sure and dress your music genre: Coltrane-Cowboys (country-jazz fusion), Sparkle Gangstas (funk), and Willie Nillies (bluegrass), while sipping on ice tea and playing backgammon. We here at HiChrisitna promise you'll learn a whole new dance routine before night's end. PS: hula hoops and zebra stripes are welcome and encouraged.

Secret Science Club presents:Living Skyscrapers—Ecologist Dickson Despommier Re-Envisions the City @ Union Hall

Step into the great glass elevator. The Secret Science Club is heading skyward with microbiologist and ecologist Dickson Despommier, whose ambitious project to create vertical farms in urban skyscrapers could radically re-vision the way we live—and eat.
A professor of environmental science and public health at Columbia University, Dr. Despommier asks: How might urban sky farms reduce global warming, and give eating local a whole new meaning? What technologies and architectural designs could work in vertical farms? How did studying parasites in underdeveloped countries lead to his concept for living skyscrapers?
